2024 Kitchen Trends

Mixing the old and new styles

What do design trends like Modern-Traditional, Scandinavian, and Modern Farmhouse have in common? Each of these styles incorporates elements of simplicity and modern innovation. Combining traditional looks like warm wood hues (more on that later) with modern trends like bright lighting creates a space that is both inviting and functional. This trend is reflected in all the others, the bottom line is that homeowners are taking the best of both worlds in 2024.

Embracing warmth with wood finishes

While white cabinets are a kitchen staple, the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) released their 2024 Kitchen Trends report in which they revealed that wood cabinetry is gaining momentum (Gautieri, 2023). The report shows that more homeowners are embracing the natural warmth that stain and wood finishes brings. The wood finishes will be commonly accompanied by creams, gold, and black, bringing some traditional elements back.

Getting creative with storage solutions

With the simplicity in design trends comes a need for new solutions to storage. Microwaves, for example, are losing their traditional space over the stove as range-hoods move in. This requires solutions like a built-in cabinet or pull-out drawer space for a microwave. As people clear their counters, storage spaces are being created for appliances. Pull-out pantry shelves and trash can pull-outs are other great examples of how functional storage is taking priority.

Beverage centers

Long gone is the single coffee pot crammed in the corner, more homeowners are dedicating a space to their beverages. Wet bars, coffee nooks, and under-counter refrigeration are on the rise to store and prepare beverages (Strong, 2023). Whether for wine, coffee, or smoothies, these in-demand spaces bring functionality and put drinks on display in 2024.

Cabinets color and style

Along with the wood finishes, homeowners are choosing natural hues, with green and gray being two of the top choices (NKAB). High gloss hardware is being traded for matte/brushed finishes, ushering out some of the cold industrial feel. 2024 cabinet door styles bring a fresh look with skinny shaker and slab doors. Skinny shakers bring a bit of sophistication to the kitchen while slab doors make for cleaner lines and simplicity.
